Douglas
A. Beigel serves as the Chief Executive Officer for COLA. Mr.
Beigel is instrumental in creating and implementing innovative
processes that deliver superior service to physician practices
nationwide in the education, achievement and accreditation healthcare
arenas. Recently, Mr. Beigel was awarded the American Society of
Association Executives Award of Excellence in Finance and
Administration for the category of technology applications.
Prior to joining COLA, Mr. Beigel was the Division Director at United
Cerebral Palsy of Central Maryland, Inc. and a private consultant to
medical practice sites.

Kathryn Connolly, MT (ASCP), CQA (ASQ) is COLA’s Quality Management Systems Accreditation Manager. In this capacity, she is responsible for the development and oversight of a new accreditation program based on quality management systems aligned with the requirements ISO 15189 and CLIA ’88. Ms Connolly, a long-time COLA employee, has more than 10 years of experience in laboratory accreditation. During her tenure with COLA, her responsibilities have included conducting laboratory surveys, monitoring PT performance, training surveyors and technical staff in accreditation processes and requirements, development of software tracking programs, development of accreditation criteria, training programs, and educational resources for laboratories.

Verlin K. Janzen, MD, FAAFP, is former Vice Chairman of
COLA's Board of Directors. Dr. Janzen is on Active Medical Staff at
the Hutchinson Hospital in the Department of Family Practice in
Hutchinson, Kansas and is currently the Medical Director of Mennonite
Friendship Manor and Oakwood Rehabilitation Home. He was a member of
the CLIAC committee at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
from 1994-2000, and currently serves as a consultant to the American
Academy of Family Physicians Proficiency Testing Program.


Edward A. Sass is one of COLA’s Surveyors who works
surveying and educating laboratories in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. He
has worked in the field of laboratory science for nearly 30 years
including an emergency room laboratory supervisor, assistant professor
of laboratory sciences, physician office laboratory consultant, and
bench technician. Mr. Sass has lectured and presented many topics for
both regional and national laboratory conferences.
