Meet the C Suite and managers of COLA Inc. These individuals have the knowledge, experience and dedication to lead COLA Inc. as a leader in laboratory medicine.
Nancy Stratton joined COLA Inc. from Austin, Texas where she was most recently CEO of Clinical Pathology Laboratories (CPL), the largest division of Sonic Healthcare. She first joined CPL in 1995 as a bench technologist and advanced to various management positions, helping CPL to achieve new levels of excellence in quality management, customer service, human resources, risk management, and regulatory and medical legal compliance. She was promoted to CEO in 2016. Prior to joining CPL, she started her career as a medical technologist in a variety of laboratory settings, including hospitals and physicians’ offices.
In addition to having extensive experience in all aspects of laboratory operations, Nancy is highly regarded in the industry for her commitment to high-quality patient care, her collaborative leadership style, and her ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with employees, physicians, hospitals and community partners.
John T. Daly, M.D. is Chief Medical Officer of COLA Inc. He received his MD at Weill Cornell University Medical College, performed his internship and residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Duke University Medical Center and a residency in Forensic Pathology at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill, N.C. He is board-certified in anatomic, clinical and forensic pathology. Following two years in the US Navy as Laboratory Director, Naval Regional Medical Center, Jacksonville Florida, he returned to private pathology practice in Durham, N.C as director of laboratories at Durham Regional Hospital. In the late 1990s, he merged the community pathology practice with the academic pathology practice at Duke Health and subsequently practiced full-time clinical pathology, retiring in 2009 as Director of the Duke University Health System Laboratories. He currently serves on the emeritus staff at Duke. In September 2011, he became Chief Medical Officer of COLA Inc., the position he now holds.
As CMO, Dr. Daly provides consultation and counsel to COLA Inc. management, staff teams, committees, and to COLA accredited laboratories on issues of Laboratory Medicine and regulatory compliance.
Kathy Nucifora, MPH, MT (ASCP), joined COLA Inc. as the Accreditation Division Manager in November 2009 and in 2019 became COLA Inc.’s Chief Operating Officer. Kathy comes to us from Maryland General Hospital where she held the position of Laboratory Administrator. Kathy was recruited from a COLA Inc. accredited lab, Hutchinson Clinic, to join Maryland General where she was responsible for creating and implementing new quality processes and procedures. In addition to managing the day to day operations of the lab, she developed and led a multidisciplinary task force to implement molecular testing for MRSA; she proposed and implemented a positive patient identification system via handheld computers; and helped lead the Laboratory and Nursing Process Improvement Committee. Kathy has also recently served as adjunct faculty at the Community College of Baltimore County for their Medical Laboratory Technician program.
Mark Tatelbaum, Esq. joined COLA Inc. as Chief Counsel in February 2019. Mark received his JD from Boston College Law School and his BA (health & society/political science) from the University of Rochester. Mark previously served as General Counsel for Ameritox, LLC (a for-profit, national toxicology laboratory) and as General Counsel for the George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates (the not for profit, faculty practice plan affiliated with the George Washington University Medical Center). Mark also worked in the health practices of two national law firms and a boutique firm, and served as a Navy JAG, which included a tour at the headquarters for Navy Medicine.
Tom Dehner joined COLA Inc. in November 2017. He is responsible for COLA’s Finance and Accounting functions including monthly financials, tax, payroll, budget and audit.
Prior to joining COLA Inc., Tom served as controller for Citizens Lending Group, a mortgage lender in Towson, MD. Prior to that, he served as VP of Finance/Controller for Severn Healthcare Inc. A home infusion based healthcare company located in Columbia, MD.
Tom received his Bachelor of Science in Finance and Graduate degree in Taxation. Tom is an active member of both the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) and MACPA (Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants).
Tammy Zinsmeister has dedicated two decades of her life to COLA’s mission serving in a variety of roles as both a staff member and external advisor. While working for the American Society for Internal Medicine in the early 90’s, Tammy became an expert in the federal CLIA law and regulations. In 1993, she joined COLA Inc. to launch the first Government Relations Office. For nearly eight years, she guided COLA’s deeming efforts at the national and state levels. She is also certified in Managed Care from the American Healthcare Management Association.
Ms. Zinsmeister combines her multi-disciplinary background to create inspiring, relevant and meaningful educational experiences for lifelong learners. Encouraged by the recent work of the Institute of Medicine on Healthcare as a Learning System and seeing the opportunity for COLA Inc. to be a part of this new paradigm, she was delighted to be chosen and currently serves as Chief Innovation Officer. She and her team work to innovate COLA’s value proposition related to its educational, consulting and accrediting services.
Ms. Zinsmeister received her Bachelors of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in economics and political science in 1986 from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She is also certified as a Professional in Managed Care by the American Academy of Healthcare Management.
Erika Holderness joined COLA Inc. in January 2016. She is responsible for COLA’s Human Resources functions including benefits administration, employee evaluation, employee relations, recruiting and onboarding, and salary/wage administration. Prior to joining COLA Inc., Erika served as the Human Resources Manager for Ev-Air-Tight, Shoemaker, Inc., a construction company located in Riverdale, MD. Prior to that, she served as a Project Manager for a property management company in Baltimore City. Before moving to Baltimore, Erika was the Manager of the Disability & Leave Program for Fairfax County Public Schools in Northern Virginia.
Mrs. Holderness received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland, College Park. She is an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management, and is currently pursuing her PHR.
Kathryn Connolly, MT (ASCP), CQA (ASQ) is the Director of Quality Systems for COLA Inc. She is responsible for the development, implementation and continual improvement of COLA’s internal quality management system in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements. Ms. Connolly is certified as a Quality Auditor and Lean Facilitator. She is an active member of the American Society for Quality, and serves as COLA’s Delegate to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI).
Ms. Connolly joined COLA Inc. in 1994 as a Laboratory Surveyor. During her tenure with COLA Inc., her responsibilities have included surveying, monitoring PT performance, training surveyors and technical staff in accreditation processes and requirements, developing software tracking programs, and developing accreditation criteria, training programs, and educational resources for laboratories. Prior to coming to COLA Inc., Kathryn served 10 years in the medical technology field in hospitals, physician offices and public health settings.
Angelissa McArthur is the Marketing Manager for COLA Inc., and is responsible for impacting and driving revenue through Brand Management, Lead Generation Initiatives, Sales Strategies and Budget Oversight. Her strategic leadership has resulted in the implementation of a Sales and Marketing infrastructure with expanded reach, tracking, and reporting of Key Performance Indicators. As a result, Angelissa has led the team to exceed revenue targets by 3% in a shrinking market.
Angelissa has more than 15 years of experience executing successful marketing campaigns and working closely with Sales Executives to meet and exceed revenue goals. She holds an MBA with a concentration in eBusiness from Johns Hopkins University. Angelissa also holds an EdM with a specialization in Counseling Psychology from Rutgers University. Her early training in psychology coupled with business training has led to her success in a variety of leadership roles at Johns Hopkins University, Weyerhauser, The Brookings Institution, and The American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Allen Bickel, joined COLA Inc. as Sales Manager in August 2019. Allen received his undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from the University of Connecticut, Storrs and his MBA from the University of New Haven. Allen served the past 20+ years as Sr. Sales Executive and Business Development Manager for a number of manufacturers in both the Analytical Instrument and Clinical IVD equipment markets. Most recently he headed Sales for the Americas for the Elemental Analysis products from HORIBA Scientific. Allen brings to COLA Inc. a strong sales focus and business development skillset that extends globally. He has demonstrated leadership with both start-ups and divisions having up to $150 M in annual revenue while bringing to his teams’ strong business development, channel management, key account management and business focus.
Jessica joined COLA Inc. following 11 years as the Manager, Membership & Meetings at the Foodservice Sales & Marketing Association (FSMA), where she reported to the President & CEO, Vice President and Legal Counsel while supporting their Board of Directors. She represented the Association at annual conferences and industry meetings and brings with her meeting planning experience.
