COLA is a non-profit, national healthcare accreditation
organization promoting quality and excellence in medicine and
patient care through programs of voluntary education, achievement
and accreditation.
Headquartered in Columbia, MD, COLA’s state-of-the-art facility
and a dedicated staff of 62 employees consisting of administrative
and technical personnel provide prompt, quality service to an
extensive customer base, which encompasses thousands of laboratory
facilities.
We are seeking an Education Technical Advisor for our
Columbia, Maryland office with:
- At least 1-3 years of related lab experience
- Training skills and experience
- Writing skills and experience
(Actual professional experience required – educational experience
does not count towards length of employment requirement.)
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
Produce and review COLA’s laboratory education and communication
products. Participate in the analysis, design, development and
implementation of COLA’s e-Learning on-line course offerings,
newsletter and other laboratory and healthcare related products.
Coordinate the dissemination of technical information for COLA’s
internal and external customers in a clear, accurate, and
educational manner. Maintain uniformity of communications while
promoting COLA’s mission, values, and goals.
WHAT YOU NEED: (MUST HAVE)
- Associates degree in clinical laboratory science or a
related discipline.
- Two years experience in the operation of a clinical
laboratory, including experience in laboratory testing, and
knowledge of instrumentation, proficiency testing, quality
assessment, and utilizing standard operating procedures.
- Good attention to detail.
- Possess excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- Experience with computer systems, especially data entry and
retrieval.
- Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work on several projects simultaneously, set
priorities for projects, and meet deadlines.
PLUSES:
- Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science or related
discipline from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Experience in the operation of the physician office
laboratory.
- Knowledge of the laboratory testing specialties and
subspecialties.
- Demonstrated skills with word processing and spreadsheet
programs, in particular Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated skills in computer databases and software
programs.
- Experience with laboratory accreditation process.
- Experience with instructional systems design software,
e-Learning course development, Learning Management Systems,
Webinars and/or Adult Education Environment.

Software Developer – C# - SQL Server -

COLA is seeking a Developer with at least 2-3 years of
professional experience for our office located in Columbia,
Maryland. (Actual professional experience required – educational
experience does not count towards length of employment requirement.)
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
- Participates in all aspects of the development process
- Apply the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and
tools throughout the development life cycle
- Corrects program errors, prepares operating instructions,
compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes
system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent
output requirements, input data acquisition, programming
techniques, and controls.
WHAT YOU NEED (MUST HAVE):
- C#, SQL Server and .Net framework
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent code commenting and adherence to standards
- Self-motivated, and able to multi-task within a
project-based environment
- Able to function independently and still work well in a
"team oriented" environment
- Knowledge of object oriented design and programming best
practices
- Knowledge of relational database design
- Familiar with Visual Studio .NET
PLUSES:

| On-Call/Part Time Laboratory
Surveyor with Cytology experience needed |
Cyto Techs– are you tired of the bench? Want to
make a difference in improving the Laboratory industry? Do you enjoy
educating others or training? Have a sense of ownership in your
projects? Want to have flexibility and control of your daily work?
Love to travel?
We are seeking an on-call/part time field surveyor with Cytology
certification and experience who also has experience conducting
surveys / inspections with organizations such as ASCT. This position
does require travel. We are looking for someone to work as little as
once a month or as much as 2 weeks a month. We are flexible with
this job model.
COLA Surveyors conduct an educational, non-threatening,
cost-effective survey of COLA laboratories to evaluate that the high
standards necessary for quality patient care and COLA Accreditation
are met.
This position requires working knowledge of clinical laboratory
testing and Federal regulatory requirements. It requires the ability
to perform the following processes accurately and efficiently:
- Verify and ensure accuracy of laboratory information in
participant database
- Conduct education-oriented surveys of participant
laboratories
- Evaluate laboratory documentation for compliance with COLA
standards
- Provide technical assistance to laboratories to aid them in
implementing changes to improve the quality of laboratory
services
- Act as a resource to laboratories on regulatory requirements
The perfect candidate will continue to be working in a lab as a
cytotech so they are maintaining competency - yet have flexibility
and availability to travel occasionally on behalf of COLA to COLA
labs to conduct on-site inspections. We are willing to train during
evenings and weekends (around your regular job schedule) and conduct
it virtually, so you would not need to come to our headquarters
location for training.

COLA
(Part Time) Laboratory Surveyors |
COLA surveyors conduct a straight-forward,
objective survey of laboratories, assisting them with compliance and
understanding of Federal (CLIA) and COLA standards to ensure quality
patient care. They are regular, salaried employees who survey with
customized, state of the art IT systems. This position does require
travel on a regular basis. Positions are established in different
parts of the country based on the volume of clients COLA has within
an area, or the surveyor’s accessibility to a major airport.
This position requires working knowledge of clinical laboratory
testing and regulatory requirements. It requires the ability to
perform the following processes accurately and efficiently:
- Verify and ensure accuracy of laboratory information in
participant database
- Conduct education-oriented surveys of participant laboratories
- Evaluate laboratory documentation for compliance with COLA
standards
- Provide technical assistance to laboratories to aid them in
implementing changes to improve the quality of laboratory services
- Act as a resource to laboratories on regulatory requirements
- Assist sales staff in the development of leads to grow business
- Contact and visit potential clients to promote COLA products and
services
- Represent COLA within various medical communities
The desired laboratorian will possess:
- At least 6 years experience as an MT with some experience in blood banking
- A BS degree in clinical lab science
- Experience preparing a lab for on-site inspection
- Professional confidence in a variety of settings
- Interest, ability, and access to travel frequently as needed
