is a time of recognition for the nation’s medical laboratory professionals who play a critical role in the delivery of health care. Clinical laboratory testing plays a crucial role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease. Clinical laboratory technologists and technicians perform most of this testing, ranging from simple tests like collecting patient blood samples to complex biological, hematological, bacteriological and many other analyses. Nationally, there are 265,000 medical laboratory professionals and 15,000 board-certified pathologists. While most never interface with the patients who rely on their care, they are a vital link in the provision of effective health care. In 2009, Lab Week will be held April 19-25.
